The two companies plan to offer a “one-stop-shop” from product specification to a finished, qualified part.
Oerlikon AM and MT Aerospace have announced a partnership to accelerate the adoption of additive manufacturing (AM) for the aerospace and defense industries.
Maintaining the ongoing trend for collaboration in the AM sector, the two companies plan to bring together technical capabilities and expertise in the aerospace market to deliver efficiency and cost savings with a range of complete end-to-end solutions.
“The companies contribute their respective expertise in component design and manufacturing, as well as component testing and qualification, to offer customers a “one-stop-shop” from product specification to a finished, qualified part,” said Hans J. Steininger, Chief Executive Officer of MT Aerospace AG.
MT Aerospace, a subsidiary of the Bremen-based space company OHB SE, specialises in designing highly stressed and lightweight metal structures for aerospace and defence applications. The partners believe these capabilities, combined with Oerlikon’s materials, design, 3D printing and post-processing abilities, will offer customers a “notable advantage” through design, manufacturing, part inspection and qualification.

Oerlikon has invested heavily in its AM activity and recently cut the ribbon on a new 55 million USD Innovation Hub & Advanced Component Production facility in the U.S. focused on aerospace, automotive, energy and medical industries. Speaking about the promise of AM, Suess says he believes the technology will play a “decisive role in how industries and industrial processes will look in the future.”
Oerlikon and MT Aerospace are exhibiting at the Paris Airshow this week on booths G79 in Hall 2B and C318 in Hall 2C.
