The new machines will strengthen Proto Labs’ capabilities to produce parts within days, which it does with a range of 3D printing, CNC machining and injection moulding technologies.
Proto Labs, a 3D printing, CNC machining and injection moulding company, is to invest in six ARBURG moulding machines.
ARBURG has been a manufacturer of injection moulding solutions for over six decades. As part of Proto Labs’ continued European expansion, which will also see a large order of new machining centres, the company will purchase a further six ARBURG Golden Edition and ‘S’ machines between 50 and 250 tonnes. The new machines will strengthen Proto Labs’ capabilities to produce parts within days, which it does with a range of 3D printing, CNC machining and injection moulding technologies.
Originating in the United States, Proto Labs established its UK base in Telford in 2005. From here, it drives its European operation, supplying demand for thermoplastic and rubber parts for use in a variety of industries. Continuing its strong relationship with another European force in ARBURG, this supply service can go from strength to strength, according to Lee Ball, Proto Labs’ Director of Operations.
“We have been doing this since 2005 so we have deep experience – serving every sector, at every size from very large companies and OEMs to the entrepreneurial one-off investors who have the next big idea,” Ball said. “Our success is built on speed and scale, where we respond quickly using proprietary software that automates the design-to-quote process. With this investment in ARBURG machines, we can massively scale capacity to support the growth and increased requirements of our customers.”
The new order of six machines will take Proto Labs count of ARBURG machines up to 41, having already installed 35. These machines include hydraulic Golden Edition and ‘S’ machines, with clamping forces from 40 to 500 tonnes. Proto Labs also owns three ARBURG liquid silicon machines, installed back in 2013, and has been steadily growing its moulding portfolio.
“Service and support from ARBURG has been excellent,” said Ball. “It makes sense to continue with ARBURG and have a common technology platform. We require excellent service as a 24/7 international business.”
