CEL Robox is world's first truly plug and print 3D printer.
UK based product development company CEL, has today announced the launch of the Robox 3D printer to the general public on the back of a successful Kickstarter campaign.
Having raised almost three times more than its target of £100,000 in December last year all Kickstarter pledges have now been fulfilled and the printer will now be made available by major retail outlets including; Farnell, CREAT3D and PrintME3D.
The Robox is the first truly plug and print 3D printer for the home and includes a proprietary dual-head print nozzle design offering print speeds up to 300% faster than other printers with one nozzle for detail and the other to ‘fill in’ larger areas.
The machine also offers multicolour printing and a smart print bed that automatically detects and corrects the gantry to ensure that the first layer of the print adheres evenly. An intelligent reel system has also been incorporated to include microchips that allow the printer to detect what material is being used along with a pioneering closed-feedback loop and dual-pinch-wheel extrusion system makes sure that the filament is fed to the print head evenly.
The Robox also has space for a second extruder that will eventually allow dual-colour printing and the ability to print with different materials simultaneously with its unique HeadLock system.
“3D printing has the potential to change the way products are made, bought, and sold,” explained Chris Elsworthy, CEO of CEL. “However, the price and complexity of the 3D printers currently on the market means that it has not fulfilled that potential to date. The Robox is affordable, capable, and usable, and that’s why it’s the perfect 3D printer for the small start-ups, artists, architects, inventors, homeowners and especially the students and children out there. We hope that the Robox will enable the average person to innovate, design and make more easily than ever before, and encourage a generation to revitalise what makes Britain great.”
The Robox goes on sale today with a retail price of £849.90.
