Additive Industries MetalFAB1
Sauber F1 now has three MetalFAB1 machines.
Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 has extended its partnership with Additive Industries to five years and installed its third MetalFAB1 system.
The two organisations announced their cooperation in 2017, having begun discussions early two years ago. Initially, they had agreed to work together for three years, but their partnership will now run until at least 2022. In addition to machine number three, Sauber has also expanded the second of its metal powder bed fusion fleet with an additional build chamber.
Sauber says it has chosen to increase its investment in the MetalFAB1 machine because it sees the platform as the only ‘true industrial system available on the market’, highlighting its reliability and consistency as particular benefits.
“We are pleased to be extending our current partnership with Additive Industries, and to introduce a third MetalFAB1 3D printing system to our facilities,” commented Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team and CEO Sauber Motorsport AG. “Not only do we aim to develop our production of parts for Formula One further, but we are also expanding our competences and activity in our third-party businesses. Building on the successful collaboration we have had so far, we look forward to working with Additive Industries and making further progress in our shared projects.”
The increased investment in the MetalFAB1 machines was always a possibility. Per the original agreement, Sauber promised to install two machines over the first two years, with Additive Industries CEO, Daan Kersten referencing the ability to expand because of the machine’s modular proficiencies. For Sauber, the aim has always been to harness the MetalFAB1 technology for series production, and so Kersten is excited that the partnership has been extended.
