SelfCAD, a 3D modelling slicing software developer, has announced its flagship product is free for all students and educators for up to three years.
Granting free two-to-three-year educational licenses, the company is looking to promote the use of easy-to-use 3D software applications in the classroom. Listening to those who have used the TinkerCad platform in recent years, SelfCAD is aware for the search for advanced 3D software at an affordable price. Thus, the company is offering its software, and its advanced modelling, sculpting, drawing and slicing capabilities, for free. Educators and students will also be able to enjoy access to a 3D object library, consisting of over 25,000 files.
“This is a natural next step for teachers who have maximised their usage of TinkerCad for younger students and want or need something more advanced for 6th-12th graders,” explains Jonathan Gross, SelfCAD’s Chief Marketing Manager. “SelfCAD is currently being used in over 100 schools nationwide and we will be expanding that number by the end of the year.”
In addition to the free three-year licenses for educational institutions, SelfCAD is also introducing a $39 yearly membership. This, the company says, will allow regular users to benefit from its modelling platform and a variety of tutorials and design exercises to help improve the user’s 3D modelling and overall 3D printing skills. Details on the yearly plan will be rolled out later in the year.
“SelfCAD comprises freehand, polyline, spline, eraser drawing and advances polygon detection features,” said Arka Roy, Founder of BIM, a user of the SelfCAD software. “SelfCAD’s sculpting enables creativity with gestures and facilitates your ideas to have the desired shapes quickly and smoothly. SelfCAD partnered with MyMiniFactory earlier this year to produce numerous readily available 3D printable objects. With SelfCAD’s macros, it is possible for automating transformations, drawing, copy and extrusion patterns.”
