Shapeways customers will now have access to Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis (DLS) technology in three different materials.
Partnering with Shapeways, Carbon has enabled the 3D printing service's user base to order parts in EPU 40, RPU 70, and UMA 90.
EPU 40 is an elastomeric polyurethane which is highly elastic and tear resistant, capable of printing foam-like products. RPU 70 is a rigid polyurethane, offering toughness and rigidity, classified as UL 94 HB flame resistant, and per Carbon, a good choice for consumer products. Finally, UMA 90 is a urethane methacrylate, a tough, rigid resin which is able to be harnessed to additively manufacture jigs and fixtures. More materials may be made available in the future.
Carbon’s technology has been implemented by a range of customers in a variety of industries, including Adidas, Ford, Lamborghini and Ridell. It has also recently been packaged into a larger format system, the L1 to enable mass production, with an L1 Production Solution for clear aligner models also being introduced, as well as the M2d for mid-sized dental labs.
Shapeways, meanwhile, has shipped parts to more than 130 countries around the world, and manufactures 6,000 products every day. The company celebrated its one millionth part last year, and has been in operation for more than a decade. It is hoping with the addition of Carbon’s DLS process and EPU 40, RPU 70, and UMA 90 materials its users can take head of the achievements of Adidas, Ford, et al, and produce similarly impactful products.
