3D printing with Porcelite
Ceramics-based 3D printing company, Tethon 3D has launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring its Porcelite 3D printing resin to the market.
Designed for use with SLA and DLP 3D printers, Porcelite is a UV curable resin which will allow users to create pieces using ceramic composite. These pieces can then be fired in a kiln to transform them into a 100% porcelain objects suitable for glazing and other ceramic finishing processes.
Ceramic 3D prints are capable of achieving high-resolution details, extremely durable and can tolerate extreme temperatures. The demand for this type of material comes mainly from the creative, consumer products and jewellery sectors where its durability and aesthetic qualities are of upmost importance.
The Kickstarter campaign has been launched to assist Tethon 3D with manufacturing, bottling, packaging and distribution of the new material directly to the customer.
Back in December, the startup filed a patent application for a 3D printer that that incorporates compression into a powder/binder jet machine. “A significant advancement in the field of ceramic additive manufacturing”, Karen Linder, President and CEO of Tethon 3D, said. The bid to market this material marks a significant step in the development of ceramics 3D printing.
The Kickstarter campaign has already surpassed its $5,000 goal and with 15 days left backers can still pledge their support in a range of tiers including t-shirts, ceramic prints and even full day workshops. Backers can secure a bottle of Porcelite for $200 as part of the campaign with the first batch, set to be shipped in April, already sold out.
