Ultimaker has announced the integration of HP’s 3D scanning technology with its Cura 3D printing software platform.
The partnership between the two companies is the result of a shared desire to simplify the 3D printing of scan data from HP’s Sprout and 3D Structured Light Scanner Pro S3.
HP’s 3D Structures Light Scanner Pro 3 enables the user to capture precise 360° images with up to 0.05 mm resolution within seconds. Supported by a tripod, aluminum rail and camera slider, the scanning device can be easily adjusted to better capture the subject from varying distances. Data can be exported in STL format, as well as OBJ and PLY, and now can be physically re-created seamlessly using Ultimaker 3D printing systems.
This development is just the latest in a growing list of Ultimaker Cura-supported 3D applications, with the likes of Siemens NX and SolidWorks already integrated to ensure similarly easy 3D printing workflows from CAD and PLM systems.
“This integration is filling a growing need in the market by embedding 3D printing capabilities into professional workflows,” commented Frans Rintjema, Managing Director Immersive Computing at HP. “This enables customers to consider combining scanning and desktop 3D printing to replace obsolete parts, adding value in professional and education environments.”
“By allowing other parties, such as HP, to integrate Ulitmaker Cura in their workflow unlocks a whole range of new possibilities for consumers and professionals to fully make use of 3D printing technology," added Paul Heiden, Senior Vice President Product Management at Ultimaker. "The integration with HP’s market-leading 3D scanning software really contributes to the adoption of professional desktop 3D printing. We’re very proud to collaborate with HP to offer this for our customers.”
