Zortrax releases three new resins optimised for jewellery applications on its LCD printer.
Zortrax has announced the release of three new castable resins for its Inkspire UV LCD 3D printer and latest Z-SUITE software update.
The Polish desktop 3D printing company says the new BlueCast Original, BlueCast X5 and BlueCast X10 resins have been optimised for its resin-based system to make jewellery casting applications more precise and speedy.
Zortrax says each resin will benefit different types of jewellery-making. The BlueCast X5 leaves no ash residue during burnout and contains no toxic compounds that could potentially contaminate an investment, making it ideal for engagement rings and stone settings. Meanwhile, BlueCast X10 is designed for more bulky pieces cast with larger amounts of metal such as signet rings and items casted with silver, and BlueCast Original is made for highly detailed, filigree designs due to its dimensional accuracy and surface quality. After printing, it can also be hand-shaped for items with micro-pave settings or micro-incisions.
Print profiles for each of the new materials will be available in the new Z-SUITE 2.11.0 release which also now includes support for third-party LCD 3D printers. Released today, Zortrax says this latest version is the “most comprehensive 3D printing management software available on the market for LCD printers”.
Features include a Rotation Optimization Tool which optimises the position of models on the build platform to maximise contact with the build plate and minimise necessary support. Raft-free 3D printing allows placing a model with supports directly on the build platform, and Z-SUITE also offers a Hollow infill pattern available to reduce the amount of resin and time needed to print a model. Additionally, holes can be added to the model which allows the resin to drain from the inside so that the printer doesn’t generate a full model filling. In addition, the Split tool allows already processed models to be divided into two or more pieces to allow users to use multiple LCD 3D printers for printing larger models in parts. Finally, intelligent support structures are automatically generated to match the model’s geometry but users also have the ability to manually add or remove individual supports where necessary.
