DMG MORI ā LASERTEC SLM Series and Additive Intelligence
DMG MORI is one of the world's largest machine tool manufacturers, applying decades of precision engineering expertise to metal additive manufacturing through its LASERTEC SLM series. The machines are built with cast-component frames and active thermal compensation systems ā the same engineering rigour used in DMG MORI's precision milling and turning platforms ā to ensure maximum rigidity, repeatability, and process reliability across long build cycles.
The LASERTEC 30 SLM 3rd Generation features a patented protective glass monitoring system and a continuously developed powder bed monitoring system with per-layer anomaly scoring, giving operators real-time process intelligence. The rePLUG interchangeable powder module system ā available in FLEX and PRODUCTION configurations ā enables fast, clean material changeover and supports workflows from material development through to certified series production.
DMG MORI's Additive Intelligence division provides consulting, engineering services, operator training, and on-demand production support, helping customers integrate AM across their value chain and achieve profitable, sustainable use of the technology.

rePLUG Powder Module System
rePLUG FLEX ā Rapid switching between a wide range of materials with minimal downtime and easy cleaning. Designed for contract manufacturing, material development, and time-sensitive jobs. A large powder reservoir supports full-volume builds (325 Ć 325 Ć 400 mm) while maintaining the flexibility to work with small powder quantities.
rePLUG PRODUCTION ā Fully automated, closed-loop powder management in an inert gas atmosphere. Unmelted powder is sieved and recirculated without operator exposure, minimising oxidation and moisture. Designed for organisations running certified processes in aerospace and medical where powder traceability and consistency are critical. Both modules share a standardised interface, enabling exchange without modification to the base machine.

Questions for your DMG MORI LASERTEC evaluation
What does machine tool heritage actually mean for your AM programme? DMG MORI builds the LASERTEC SLM series with cast-component frames and active Z-axis temperature compensation ā the same engineering philosophy applied to its precision milling and turning machines. If process repeatability and thermal stability across long builds are critical to your qualification programme, ask DMG MORI to quantify dimensional variance across a full build envelope and compare it against the competition.
Which rePLUG module fits your workflow ā FLEX or PRODUCTION? The rePLUG FLEX is designed for contract manufacturers and material developers who need to switch between powders quickly with minimal cross-contamination risk. The rePLUG PRODUCTION is a fully automated, closed-loop inert-gas powder management unit for organisations running certified processes in aerospace or medical where powder traceability is non-negotiable. Both share a standardised interface. Clarify whether your workflow is primarily development or series production before committing to a module configuration.
How mature is your monitoring requirement? The LASERTEC 30 SLM 3rd Generation includes a patented protective glass monitoring system that checks for contamination and damage continuously during a build, and a powder bed anomaly detection system that assigns a per-layer Anomaly Score and supports .cli data overlay to distinguish part-critical defects from non-critical irregularities. Ask specifically how monitoring data is exported and whether it integrates with your quality management system.
Do you need manufacturing services as well as a machine? DMG MORI's Additive Intelligence division offers consulting, engineering, operator training, and on-demand production services alongside the hardware. If you are evaluating AM for the first time or need to de-risk a new application before capital investment, this service layer is worth factoring into the total value proposition ā not just the machine specification.
