Candice Majewski, leader of a research team in AM at The University of Sheffield says:
"Here at The University of Sheffield we've been working at the cutting edge of Additive Manufacturing for many years, and have seen may exciting developments since the days when these techniques were almost solely used for production of 'rough and ready' prototypes. As processes, materials, and understanding of the technologies have improved, we've seen a dramatic increase in their industrial applications. Of course this is a positive step forward for our community, but at the same time raises concerns related to the shortage of available job-hunters. Put simply, companies are investing in AM hardware and software much faster than they can find skilled employees to incorporate the techniques into their new or existing practices. We believe we have a big part to play in helping to solve this issue, and a responsibility to help educate and inspire the next generation of engineers about these technologies."
