3D printed headphones
If, like me, you are a little bit of a headphone zealot these will be right up your strasse. Low Fi High Tech headphones by industrial design studio j.c. karich available to 3D print from Thingiverse.
The idea is simple; create a fully functional pair of audio headphones without any traditionally manufactured part. Alongside the 3D printed parts available on Thingiverse you need copper wire, tape, solder and magnets to create your own homemade headphones.
The project originally started as 3D printed adapters to turn in-ear ‘phones into headphones. The Paris-based designer says on his site “I’m probably not the only one who thinks in-ear headphones are not the more comfortable but more important than this is the fact that is headphones allow you to isolate from the rest sometimes but what if you could decide either to use your headphones inside or over you ears?”
The current incarnation is a step beyond a simple adapter and comes with detailed instructions on how to create these DIY headphones. Not only do they look beautiful, in that kind of clean Apple sort of way, but they sound good too! The video contains audio capture from the phones, which you can hear perfectly.
"The most challenging part was to make the right combination of 3D printed elements such as the speaker piece, the ear part had to be a good acoustic case and should include a holder for the magnet, the speaker itself is a very thin printed part with a very thin rail to be able to insert the copper wire"
This reminds us of the amazing project by Amanda Ghassei who 3D printed working vinyl records. We look forward to seeing what Karich has up his sleeve for us next.
