Materialise and HP have announced a partnership which will see the former’s software technology integrated with the latter’s Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing platforms.
The two companies made the announcement ahead of RAPID + TCT and believe their alignment will help users of Multi Jet Fusion machines on their way to achieving additive manufacturing at industrial scales and offer important new benefits in healthcare.
Per the agreement, a new version of Materialise’s Build Processor will support the entire range of HP’s Multi Jet Fusion portfolio, including the recently launched 5200 platform; new customers of the 300/ 500 colour series will have free access to Materialise Magics Essentials for six months; and Materialise has certified the HP Jet Fusion 580/ 380 for the printing of anatomical models for diagnostic and surgical planning uses in combination with Materialise Mimics.
With Materialise Build Processor, users will be able to improve operation management and production monitoring, and in combination with Materialise Streamics software, store build-data for improved traceability. This software platform will be available later this year. The Magics Essentials software, meanwhile, allows users to import a host of file formats, including important colour and texture information, apply textures or colours on marked areas, and retain native colour information and textures during model repair. And the certification of the 580/ 380 machines in conjunction with Mimics for specific medical applications provides some gains in the care of patients, since vascular structure details in cardiac, orthopaedic and cranio maxillofacial models can now be more accurately portrayed.
“Recent advances in technology have created new excitement and growing awareness for 3D printing as a relevant complementary manufacturing technology that will help to transform the factory floor,” commented Fried Vancraen, Founder and CEO of Materialise. “Triggered by potential design optimisations and the ability to scale and achieve mass-customisation, manufacturers recognise the economic advantages and are preparing for full-scale 3D printing production runs. Together, Materialise and HP are innovating to eliminate limitations surrounding 3D printing and creating a more open market model that offers manufacturers more choice, more control and lower cost, ultimately leading to increased adoption.”
“We value the long-standing collaboration we’ve had with Materialise since entering the 3D printing industry in 2016, and recognise the shared vision to help accelerate the journey to digital manufacturing for our customers,” said Christoph Schell, President, HP 3D Printing and Digital Manufacturing. “Combining our innovative approaches to software, data intelligence, and 3D printing will lead to the design and production of entirely new classes of applications across the world’s leading industries including automotive, industrial, healthcare, and consumer goods.”
