At RAPID + TCT we speak to Xact Metal's CEO Juan Mario Gomez, who tells us more about his company's technology, which replaces expensive galvo servers - used to direct the laser - with a cheaper solution. Xact are selling a powder-bed fusion metal machine for $120,000 USD.
Gomez, who says the RAPID+TCT reaction to Xact's technology has been more than he expected, believes the metal printing solution is good value for money, compared to similar products on the market. Xact's CEO also discusses how the printer enables users to reduce cost without sacrificing the build quality.
Operating from Pennsylvania State University's Innovation Park, the start-up is targeting small-to-medium research organisations with this machine. The printer supports reactive and non-reactive powders, which includes stainless steel and inconel 180, with further additions to be made later in the year.
