Cuboyo
Yesterday saw a couple of well known designers move away from thingiverse in an attempt to keep their designs out of the clutches of a mega company. So now is probably a good time to launch another 3D printing repository.
The latest coming out of Switzerland is Cuboyo, which claims to be the easiest to use repository available. Their press notes read as follows, “Typically, websites offering 3D creations have been the province of technophiles; Cuboyo now offers a user-friendly platform for selecting objects to make with a 3D printer, effectively democratizing this revolutionary production method. The website is comparable to an “App Store for objects” that can be created with a 3D printer.”
Some of that statement is certainly true, the website looks nice and is laid out well, models are separated into logical categories and when you click a model you get a nice adjustable render of the object and an estimation of how much it will cost to print.
However, it is to be expected that there will be some snags on any new website like this, one came when attempting to download the model, none of our software, not netfabb, not OpenFlipper, nor the UP! software recognised the door wedge STL.
Another drawback to the site is the very few models available, though it is easy enough to upload models at the pricing structure for downloads will suit some designers so we expect this one to gather pace.
One to keep an eye on perhaps?
