Italian mathematician Fibonacci penned a whole book about it and created the Golden Spiral, a logarithmic spiral that gets wider (or further from its origin) by a factor of φ for every quarter turn it makes. Yes it is confusing but it is, at a basic level, the mathematic equation to deity. It was also the inspiration for Michael Schimdt’s world first; a fully printed 3D dress.
Modelled by Dita Von Teese the dress adheres to the mathematic principles set out by Fibonacci. According to Schmidt “the advent of three dimensional printing allows for the creation of forms previously unattainable through traditional means of production”
Schmidt designed the entire gown on his iPad and collaborated with architect Bitonti over Skype. The 3D model of the dress was then passed to the guys at Shapeways and debuted on the 40-year-old burlesque entertainer Von Teese at the Ace Hotel in New York this week.
