After the HYREL 3D printer, which we reported last week, another 3D printer has gone live on Kickstarter. This one is the Eventorbot — a completely open source 3D printer that boasts a single solid steel frame that reduces parts and cost by 40%, according to the developer. Said developer is Duy Dang and, in keeping with the open source nature of his project he has made the blueprints and hardware list available on Thingiverse and RepRap Wiki.
Designed to be a low cost and easy to assemble 3D printer, the Eventorbot, at time of writing, has got 41 backers pledging a total of $13,138 of the $25k target. There are still 36 days to go. According to Duy, rigidity of the system was central in Eventorbot’s development, with a current build size of 6”x6”x6” with plans to expand this in the future.
It is, typically, a deposition 3D printer and processes plastic (ABS & PLA) filament. No specifics yet on speeds or resolution of parts but we look forward to seeing some parts. A complete kit can be obtained via the Kickstarter project for $530 (£325).
