Kickstarter
EZ3D
We’ve reported before that Kickstarter and 3D printing have been going hand in hand for some time, we see a new printer or 3D printing related project on Kickstarter on almost a weekly basis, none more famous than the 3D printing pen 3Doodler. It comes as no surprise that we’ve got another new 3D printer this week, EZ3D Printer.
EZ3D may actually have picked a bad time to launch on Kickstarter, there’s been somewhat of a backlash over the last few weeks from disgruntled folk who feel that Kickstarter is a breeding ground for corruption and products that aren't what they say they are.
With that in mind as well as EZ3D’s uneasy pitch video and somewhat sickly sweet colouring may unfortunately put some backers off, however we at Personalize think that would be a shame.
EZ3D has some genuine USPs as far as we can see; for starters there’s a counterweight pulley system Z-axis which works much like an elevator, they say this stops those uneven edges you often get with a print. Then there’s dual temperature monitoring which will monitor the top of the extruder as well as the bottom to prevent jamming. Last but not least an easy to use software package complete with queuing and the ability to reverse a failed print to the point of failure which could go someway in salvaging all of those half printed iPhone cases.
We like the EZ3D printer, some of the improvements mentioned are ones we felt needed addressing from our experimentations with other desktop 3D printers, if they can solve those issues it could be an exciting project. Though we’re not sure how happy Disney will be with the Yoda pledge….
