GrabCAD and Autodesk demo
Autodesk are a fast moving bunch, less than a month ago they moved to save TinkerCad, now they have stepped up to join forces with the premier sharing and viewing platform for 3D designs, GrabCAD, to allow 3D design on their Workbench platform.
GrabCAD was only founded four short years ago but in that time it has become the one-stop-shop for CAD designers across the globe. This partnership and resulting new features, allowing users to use AutoCAD 360 and Fusion 360 in the cloud, only serves to improve their already lofty standing in the CAD community.
GrabCAD has over 700,000 users who will now be able to access design tools that would perhaps have been too costly. An explanation of how the features work on GrabCAD’s site reads:
It all starts in GrabCAD Workbench, where users can launch the apps they sign up for in Toolbox. With AutoCAD 360, users will be able to edit 2D files right in the browser, including collaborative editing where multiple users can see and edit a drawing. In the coming weeks, users will be able to launch Fusion 360 from within Workbench and, after editing the model, can save the model back to GrabCAD. In addition, all users of Autodesk Fusion 360 will be able to publish to the public GrabCAD Library so Community members can see the model.
Autodesk CEO, Carl Bass who appeared in a live video demonstration (which you can watch a replay of by clicking the video to the left of this article) said, “We’re (Autodesk) really excited to bring our new cloud based tools AutoCad 360 and Fusion 360 to the largest community of online engineers… we want to make this (GrabCAD) the central point where engineers can collaborate and do their work”
2009 must be a lucky year for start-ups in the 3D sphere…
