The Zeepro Zim Kickstarter video
UPDATE 16/09/2013
The Zeepro machine has now launched on Kickstarter asking for $300,000, they have already garnered $50,000 in the first three days of funding. This initial success will be no doubt down to the impressive pitch video, which outlines some pretty amazing features on the Zim. We're very impressed with the onboard camera process that allows a user to control a print from a smartphone while away from the printer. Looks like one to watch certainly and I'd recommend giving the video a watch too.
Meet Zim, by Zeepro the latest printer to try to break the consumer market using Kickstarter as the leverage point.
Zeepro say the Zim is the first plug-and-play dual extruding 3D printer, we’re not so sure if that’s the case but we suppose it depends on what they mean by plug-and-play.
That being said, it looks like a very neat printer with some fantastic features including dual colour printing head, Ethernet & WiFi connectivity, an onboard micro-camera, smartphone and tablet control, and an exclusive refillable cartridge system.
Crucially, it boasts an impressive print resolution of 80 microns - 20 microns finer than most of the printers on the market at the moment - at a speed of 110 mm/s plus the dual extruders can print in soluble PVA meaning better support material removal.
With all of the features along with the high-spec printing resolution and speeds you’d expect the Zim to be in the higher echelons of the 3D printing price bracket but the dual headed machine is said to come in at around the $900 mark with the single headed version as little as $599.
“We dreamt about making the best personal 3D printer in the world. We wanted it to be plug and play, as well as really easy to use. We also wanted it to be connected, precise and fast... all that enclosed in a beautiful design and affordable. We assembled a great team of highly motivated and talented designers and engineers. Together, we imagined Zim. We are very proud to present Zim on Kickstarter starting September 13th." Philippe Guglielmetti, Zeepro’s CEO.
As Philippe says the Zim launches on Kickstarter in the coming days so check back here for more details on this interesting looking printer.
