MakieLabs
Makie-ing history
Getting CE certification is a massive step for any commercial toy, and MakieLab’s first product, Makies, has become the first 3D printed to be able to display the CE mark.
Chaired my lastminute.com co-founder and dotcom guru Martha Lane Fox MakieLab have been producing Makies for close to a year now and are close to shipping their 8,000th model.
Customisation is big business; take a look at the success of ClaireaBella bags if you don’t believe us. Kickstarter is awash with rivals to Makies, but being first is always important. Being first to be certified as compliant with EU toy safety regulations, and approved for use by children aged 3 and up, only gives them a further head start.
Makies believe the future is in digital and physical toys, users create an online avatar and for £99 they are sent an exact replica that they have 3D printed and then hand assembled in their London lab.
