There’s many ideas with regards to how 3D printing can bring mass-customisation to everyday products, ebay have been very quick to cotton on to this trend by releasing their ebay exact app.
One of the hottest trends is creating bespoke jewellery through a variety of designs, from PolyChemy’s named necklaces to Nu’s bracelet created from algorithms of different songs, the latest to join to fold is Makoo who aim to "make your words last forever.”
Their software allows a user to pick a piece of jewellery, be it a bracelet, a ring or a tie clip and customise it using the sound of your voice. You voice is decoded for intensity, which is then used to decipher a shape for your piece of jewellery. You can decide on the thickness and torsion of your bracelet but the shape will remain the same.
The pieces all come with the information they were created with, so if it is a gift to someone they can scan a QR code and found out what you are trying to say to them, perhaps a rather novel way to propose to a partner?
The idea comes out of the minds of four young Italian gentlemen, Federico De Simone, Giulio Galassi, Arianna Notari and Dario De Angelis who are hoping to make a successful business out of their award winning idea.
