3Dbility
A new 3D printing repository opens on almost a weekly basis, as a whole wave of startups try to wrestle power from thingiverse the reality is that most people will go to a search engine aggregator rather than one specific site to find a particular model.
3Dbility hope that site will be theirs as they launch a search engine for 3D printable models, “3dbility is going to be the YouTube of the 3d Printable Object Files. The free flow of information via the index of 3dbility Printable Object Files will help 3d Self Manufacturing Industry to grow and flourish for the good of consumer demands…” reads the rather grandiose statement in the PR.
The site does what it says on the tin, searches for 3D models, of the six test searches I ran the only models that were returned were from thingiverse but we expect that from a new starter. We’re sure in time that there will be plenty of other sites indexed.
The searches are displayed in the relevant 3D model format and have the links to download the file, all very simple and straightforward. They aren’t the first site to do this, but they are doing it well.
It is not unimaginable that before long however Google follow suit and include a 3D Printing section to the king of search engines.
