3Doodler 2.0
3Doodler 2.0 - next generation of world's first 3D printing pen.
Whether you consider it to be a 3D printer or not, the 3Doodler is arguably one of the biggest success stories to come out of the 3D printing industry, crushing its initial Kickstarter goal in a matter of hours and fast becoming the world’s most popular 3D printing device with over 100,000 sales in just under a year.
Now the 3Doodler is headed back to Kickstarter for a second time in its latest incarnation: 3Doodler 2.0.
Having pre-viewed at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas last week, the campaign quickly sold out of its Early Bird Special offering the device at the extremely low price tag of just $50 to eager crowdfunding supporters and has quickly totted up just under $1 million in pledges.
So what’s new with the 3Doodler? Well, roughly the size of a marker pen, it’s been completely slimmed down to just 50 grams and is now housed in much sleeker aluminium casing.
Along with more efficient and stable heating and a quieter airflow, the device features an entirely new nozzle design and dual speed control for a customised doodling experience.
But what’s a new toy without some shiny new accessories? The creators have also unveiled a range of new peripherals including a DoodleStand, a JetPack for 2 hours non-stop portable doodling, six interchangeable nozzles and a foot pedal for longer doodling sessions.
What appeared as a bit of a novelty, the 3Doodler was originally marketed as a tool for small projects such as repairs and drawings but last year highlighted some impressive examples of the pen’s capabilities including an entirely doodled dress and large scale artworks.
As expected, the 3Doodler 2.0 has already surpassed its modest $30,000 Kickstarter target with 10 days left. The Community Special pledges have already sold out but backers can still get their hands on the $99 package which comes equipped with a pen and four packs of 25 strands of plastic. The pens are expected to start shipping in April 2015.
