Pirate3D - Buccaneer® 3D Printer Exposed
"Come take a journey into our Pirate Cave! Where you'll see what powers the latest in Pirate Technology, the Buccaneer 3D Printer!"
After much waiting and clammy 3D print hand-wringing among the 3D printing nerd community, Pirate3D's Buccaneer has dropped anchor on Kickstarter.
The machine claims to bring 3D printing technology into the home of every landlubber who knows their extruder from their elbow.
In the first few minutes of appearing on the crowdsourcing website, the 3D printer already had nearly 400 backers, with $123,517 pledged of its $100,000 goal.
So what makes the Buccaneer such precious booty compared to all the other desktop 3D printers out there on the seven seas (ed. We are aware how lame these pirate puns sound, let the writer get it out of their system).
The Buccaneer promises the two things that matter most to a home 3D printing enthusiast - quality and affordability.
Pirate3D states: "We at Pirate3D are creating a full 3D printing solution for home consumers. We want this technology to be freely available to everyone (at great and affordable prices!) and also easy to use (great user experience!). Our long-term mission is to be innovative at every level of 3D printing, from object design all the way to printing."
It claims the Buccaneer is easy to set up and is fully cloud-functional, therefore allowing makers to work from their mobile phones, while the software is also idiot-proof with 3D Design Software operating on a click/drag system, enabling people to customise their 3D objects easily.
Pirate3D notes: "Many prominent people believe 3D printing technology is not ready for the home. We respectfully disagree. When you help us to succeed, you are helping to bring this technology to everyone at a price that is easily affordable.
"Our dream is to make the user experience of this technology as seamless as it can be and to open up the technology while at the same time not being greedy and squeezing our customers for unsustainable profits."
Pirate3D's manufacturing timeline for the Buccaneer begins on June 10th when beta prototype testing will reach completion, while the delivery of 500 units is penciled in for December 1st 2013, with each Buccaneer costing just $347.
So watch this space for the Buccaneer to start swashbuckling its way into the growing desktop 3D printing market, yarrrr! (ed. Alright! That's enough of that!)
