Gold running shoes
Design and engineer Luc Fusaro is developing a pair of 3D-printed running shoes with some unusual spikey features...
The althlete-specific performance sprint shoes are named ''Design to Win.'' The most eye-catching features are the gold colour and the short spikes for added athletic appeal.
Fusaro's plan, by using an exploration of materials, technologies and processes, is to design a shoe that fits specifically to the size and shape of the owner's feet. After scanning their feet, Fusaro will be able to custom-print a pair of shoes that could shave off a few seconds of time from a professional runner's lap.
Fusaro has also designed the podium for the Victory Ceremonies in the upcoming 2012 London Olympics. Using the opportunities offered by additive manufacturing and Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) in particular, a project by Royal College of Art student Luc Fusaro opens up the possibility of whole new generation of athlete-specific footwear, proposing new models of production and consumption of sport equipment.
3D printing is exploding in popularity and we have recently seen everything being made successfully from bikinis to artifical livers from a 3D printer.
Here at Personalise, we can't wait to see the next evolution in scientific advancement.
