24th September
10:00 - 10:30: The UK’s First Additive Manufacturing Solution for the Rail Industry
James Brown, Data and Performance Engineer, Angel Trains, and Martin Stevens, Mechanical Engineering Manager, DB ESG (Deutsche Bahn)
Martin Stevens, Mechanical Engineering Manager, DB ESG and James Brown, Data and Performance Engineer, Angel Trains will explore how a recently launched collaboration has resulted in the UK’s first additive manufacturing solution for the rail industry, and the first in-service 3D printed parts on the UK’s railways. Using advanced materials from Stratasys, Stevens and Brown will reveal how this is eradicating the need for obsolete inventory, improving the ability to service customers, and reducing costs
10:30 - 11:00: UK Taking to Space with 3D Printed Rocket Engines
Oleg Dmitriev, Chief Technical Operations Officer, Skyrora
Skyrora is a Scotland-based company working towards a British Government aim of capturing 10% of the global space market by 2030 and is incorporating metal additive manufacturing in its Leo engines inside suborbital Skyrora 1 and orbital Skyrora XL launch vehicles. This keynote presentation will examine the results of a 3D printed rocket engine and explain why additive manufacturing is critical for future rocket and space exploration. The session will also focus on the supply chain opportunities, requirements from Skyrora and new space exploration companies.
25th September
10:00 - 10:30: Restoring the Lost Dragons at Kew: The Role of 3D Printing in Historical Restoration
Craig Hatto, Project Lead and Director, Historic Royal Palaces and Hatto & Co
Historical restoration is a major undertaking. Beyond the painstaking care essential to preserve and stabilise historical structures, it also includes a great deal of research and planning to return relics to a known or assumed state with as much integrity as possible. In this presentation, Craig Hatto, Director, Hatto & Co., will share the vital role 3D printing played in the historical restoration of The Great Pagoda, Kew. As project lead, Mr. Hatto will delve into how the combination of technology and expertise rendered this effort not only manageable, but efficient, and resulted in a restoration that will truly stand the test of time.
10:30 - 11:00: 3D Medicine at Mayo Clinic: A Deep Dive into Technology and Philosophy
Amy Alexander, Senior Biomedical Engineer, Mayo Clinic Department of Radiology’s Anatomic Modelling Lab
Mayo Clinic, US, has been 3D printing to enhance patient care since 2006. In that time, the fields of medical 3D visualisation, anatomic modelling, and patient-specific surgical guide use have expanded significantly. Expect to hear of the latest in materials science, additive manufacturing, point-of-care 3D printing, and insurance reimbursement and regulation in the US in addition to substantial opportunities in the UK. State of the art technology will be presented alongside a deeper discussion about the intersection of art, medicine, engineering, and design.
26th September
10:00 - 10:30: Pan-Industrial Strategies for Additive Manufacturing
Richard D'Aveni, Bakala Professor of Strategy at the Tuck School of Business, Dartmouth College
In his most recent book titled The Pan-Industrial Revolution, bestselling author and Dartmouth Tuck School of Business Professor, Richard D’Aveni, discussed the impact of additive manufacturing on the world economy, current challenges and how a small number of pan-industrial companies, will capture the market.
