Over the past few decades, the UK has become a hotbed of innovative ideas, concepts and designs in both technology and application development within the additive manufacturing sector.
In this presentation on the Main Stage at the TCT Show 2016, Phill Dickens, Professor of Manufacturing Technology, Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing Research Group at The University of Nottingham explores a multi-faceted strategy. This approach will work to ensure the UK capitalises on past success and cements its status as a leading innovator in the additive manufacturing industry.
Professor Dickens and his team of researchers present their visions for the national additive manufacturing strategy over the next ten years. They include the UK doubling its market share, becoming the outright leading country of AM and direct manufactured 3D-printed parts being commonplace in most sectors.
“How can the UK can make money out of additive manufacturing and how can we do it better in the UK than other countries?” Professor Dickens ponders. “That’s what it’s all about. We’ve estimated we can get 8% of the market. We’re currently around 4.3%. So we’re trying to double our numbers. That is worth a lot of jobs and a lot of money.”
