It seems there’s a trend for immortalising yourself in 3D printed miniature form. Whether it is in a gummy, chocolate, plastic, Star Wars, Star Trek or superhero form there’s an enhanced 3D printed version of you available. But what about hyper-realistic miniatures?
Well thanks to German start-up Twinkind you can now get a photo-realistic figurine of you, a pet or a loved one.
Just look at some of the figurines in our gallery they are truly stunning, a sight for sore eyes e̶s̶p̶e̶c̶i̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶ ̶l̶o̶o̶k̶ ̶l̶i̶k̶e̶ ̶m̶e̶ (Ed. Redacted).
Looking at the samples, the prints appear to come from a Z-Corp Sandstone printer, like the ones Shapeways use for their collection of memes, including the amazing Sad Keanu.
The scanner uses a similar process to how bullet-time was filmed in The Matrix movies. Twinkind say that unlike other full body scans there is done in the blink of an eye, meaning you don’t have to stand perfectly still holding your breath for too long. This also lends to the ability to turn your beloved pets into models. Twinkind say that their revolutionary scanning process is to remain secret, a bit like McDonalds' Big Mac sauce then?
Beauty of this kind doesn’t come cheap though, first of all you’ve got to get yourself to their pop-up shop in Hamburg, Germany and then the models are priced between €225 (£190, $300) for a 15cm figure to a whopping €1290 (£1098, $1710) for the biggest at 35cm. That’s one expensive doll!
The printing process takes between 2-5 weeks but they’re trying to speed that up. Though the price is probably a bit prohibitive for most there’s no denying the stunning models.
